IPCC Overview The PPC Regulations (Pollution Prevention and Control Regulations 2000,) came into force on 1 August 2000 as a result of the EU IPPC Directive (Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control). The regime is known as either PPC or IPPC. The regulations have had about a dozen amendments since 2000, and full details of the original regulations and amendments are available on the NetRegs website run by the Environment Agency. The main aim of the regulations is to control and reduce the environmental impact of heavy industry and industrial farm units. Areas covered include monitoring and reducing the quantity and type of planned and fugitive emissions to the environment; reducing the use of energy and raw materials; preventing environmental nuisance such as odour and noise; and managing the environmental impact of a site to an acceptable standard.
